Urn: Journey

“Journey”, black chlorite/ limestone/ bronze, 14” x 10” x 6”, $2250.00
A form modeled after a found animal vertebra. It somewhat resembles a fishing vessel with internal shelter, or perhaps a bird making ready for flight. A literal and figurative ‘vessel’.

Urn: A single rose

“A Single Rose”, raspberry alabaster/ granite, 13” x 7” x 7”, $2500.00
This work was modeled from photographs of different rose buds, and virtually created before its physical carving.  I tried to capture the essence of a ‘pinwheel’ pattern of one bud, and the ‘Queens Collar’ effect of the other. An absolute black granite pedestal/ urn brings out the lovely color of the carved alabaster rosebud.

Urn: Moon Obelisk

“Moon Obelisk”, alabaster/ bronze, 8” x 8” x 9”, $2500.00
The permutations of a waxing and waning moon seemed a perfect way to elicit a sense of primal source. A translucent peach alabaster became the moonlike material depicting a seedpod, while layered bronze plate would express the rising and the diminishing of its primal seed.

Urn: Tango Redux

“Tango Redux”, limestone/ bronze, 16” x 14” x 5”, $2250.00
I was drawn to a piece of driftwood that seemed to be sheltering the torso and leg of a dancing figure. This figure was extracted from its context with drawings and three-dimensional imaging. The achieved form was duplicated as a mirror image, slightly reduced in size, and its leg was swept backward. The two forms were then intertwined creating a virtual sculpture that became the model for the carved black limestone work.
