Agave
black chlorite / marble
16" x
6" x 6"
A desert agave plant whose leaves mature as they rotate in a counter clockwise direction inspired this work. The leaves expand in overlapping circles and tilt backward until they touch the ground. Three essential parts of this process are depicted in Agave, with a central core just beginning to open, to a fully open and outward leaning leaf. The threesome are firmly secured to the top of their marble container, opened by gently holding the leaves at their waist.
